About Supreme Court of India

The Supreme Court of India, located at Tilak Marg in New Delhi, is the apex court of the country and the final court of appeal under the Constitution. It hears Special Leave Petitions under Article 136, writ petitions under Article 32, civil and criminal appeals, transfer petitions, review and curative petitions, and matters of constitutional interpretation before benches ranging from two judges to larger Constitution Benches. Every matter filed in the Supreme Court first receives a diary number from the Registry, and only on registration does it get a case number such as SLP(C), SLP(Crl), C.A. or W.P.(C) — which is why many litigants track their matter by diary number in the early stage.

Types of Cases You Can Track

Special Leave Petitions — SLP (Civil) & SLP (Criminal)
Civil Appeals & Criminal Appeals
Writ Petitions under Article 32

Why Use India Case Status Instead of eCourts?

Checking Supreme Court case status on the official portal means re-entering your diary number or case number every time, and there is no notification when your matter is listed, an order is uploaded or the registry marks a defect. Many litigants also lose track of their matter between the diary-number stage and registration. India Case Status tracks your Supreme Court matter continuously against the official record and alerts your team on WhatsApp and email when the status changes, a listing date is published or an order PDF becomes available.

How do I check Supreme Court case status by diary number?

Every filing in the Supreme Court of India is first assigned a diary number by the Registry (for example, Diary No. 12345/2026). Add that diary number on India Case Status and the platform follows your matter through verification, defect curing and registration, alerting you when it is numbered, listed or an order is uploaded.

What is the difference between a diary number and a case number in the Supreme Court?

The diary number is the receipt number the Supreme Court Registry assigns the moment a petition is filed, before scrutiny. Once defects are cured and the matter is registered, it receives a case number such as SLP (C) No. 4321/2026 or W.P. (C) No. 210/2026. Both identify the same matter at different stages, and you can track with either.

How can I check my SLP status online?

A Special Leave Petition can be tracked by its diary number, its SLP number once registered, or by party name. India Case Status monitors SLP (Civil) and SLP (Criminal) matters and notifies you when the SLP is listed for admission, tagged with connected matters, or when notice is issued, leave is granted or the petition is disposed of.

Can I track a Supreme Court case by party name?

Yes. If you do not have the diary number or case number handy, search by petitioner or respondent name and the filing year. Once the matter is identified, the platform keeps following it and sends hearing and order alerts to you and your team.

Will I get the Supreme Court order and judgment copies?

Yes. When an order or judgment is uploaded to the official record for your matter, the platform alerts you and attaches the PDF, and every order stays archived against the case file in your dashboard so your team can find it later.
